FEST* was a collective exhibition and a temporary utopia that consisted of an immersive installation by three artists, and a 12-hour soundscape by two DJs. The event took part in the Walk-In Studio Festival and was held at the cultural association Fucine Vulcano in Milan in October of 2021.
Curatorial statement
We believe that the body is the ground zero from which all utopias are born and conducted. The body that has no place and can be in any place. The body through which we feel, hear, see, and act, through which we perceive and choose our reality. The body that can hide and expose itself, that can shrink and again expand in the blink of an eye. In Foucault's words:
"After all, isn't a dancer's body a dilated body, according to a space that is internal and external at the same time?"
A party can become a utopia, not because it is bound to a specific space and time in which everything is allowed. FEST* is a utopia because of the utopian body, which for a moment strips itself of the norms imposed on it. FEST* is a moment of resistance, offering catalysts to discover the possible utopias hidden in the body. Artists interact at FEST*, observing the audience, and taking cues to create a visual and aural environment. The audience in turn is conditioned by the environment; accompanied by it and based on it they are invited to act, to create an exchange. What remains in between, the gestures, the signs, the relationships, the pauses, the smiles, the debates, that is the party.
1. FEST* is a safe space, every being, living or not, must be respected.
2. With makeup or mask one does not hide. One assumes responsibility, acquires secret powers, makes further connections with one's surroundings.
3. Listening is a fundamental tool at FEST* and always comes before action.
4. Curiosity is a virtue.
